Nobody ever expects to lose their home to a fire. But on February 1, 2015, Brett and Mary MacElveen of Sound Beach, New York did. Although the Sound Beach Fire Department responded quickly and soon got the fire under control, the smoke and flames had already destroyed much of the family’s home. Brett and Mary MacElveen barely escaped with their lives, but they lost all of their belongings, their house, and their beloved cat, Sampson.
Afterwards, Brett and Mary made the remarkable decision to share their tragic experience with others in order to help save lives and teach fire prevention.
