UPDATE: Man Dies of Apparent Self-Inflicted Wounds After His Wife is Found Dead
A husband and wife are dead following an incident in a Middle Island home Sunday night.

UPDATE 8 a.m. Tuesday: Erdem Gulay has died from his injuries. Detectives believe his wounds were self-inflicted. Fahriye Ugan’s wounds do not appear to have been self-inflicted, police said. The investigation is continuing.

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY - A 54-year-old woman was found dead and her husband seriously injured with stab wounds inside a Middle Island home Sunday night.

According to Suffolk Police, Seventh Precinct officers responded to a 911 call to check on the welfare of the residents of 42 Summersweet Drive at about 8:45 p.m.
When responding officers entered the home, a gas leak was detected, police said.

Once the home was ventilated, Fahriye Ugan was found dead and her husband, Erdem Gulay, 41, was found with stab wounds and transported to a local hospital.
An autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine Ugan’s cause of death.
The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392.
