Today's riddle: What did the wall say to the other wall. 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Herb's Market in Montauk to close in September after more than 60 years (newsday.com) — Herb's Market, a Montauk staple on Montauk Highway since 1963, will close at the end of September, with all items and equipment being sold off. Known for its breakfast, sandwiches, meats and local produce, the shop is thanking generations of loyal Montauk customers as it winds down operations.
2. 2026 Fred Golofaro Memorial Montauk Classic Bluefish & Striped Bass Surf Fishing Tournament (longisland.com) — Montauk anglers can gear up now for the Fred Golofaro Memorial Montauk Classic surf tournament, running October 2–4 and covering Napeague State Park through Montauk Point. With a $20 entry fee, cash prizes, and a Sunday awards ceremony at Montauk Point State Park, locals have a competitive, community-focused weekend of bluefish and striped bass fishing to look forward to.
3. LIRR to make upgrades aimed at avoiding packed trains in summer on Montauk line (newsday.com) — LIRR riders heading to and from Montauk can expect less crowding in coming years as the railroad extends sidings at Amagansett and lengthens platforms and tracks at Hampton Bays to handle longer trains. The Montauk Branch, which already carries over a million riders annually, will gain more flexible scheduling, better recovery from delays, and a now-permanent 5:13 p.m. weekday train from Manhattan to Montauk.
4. An American mink just surfaced on Long Island. Researchers are stunned (greaterlongisland.com) — Long Island researchers are celebrating rare trail‑camera photos and video confirming an American mink still survives in Northport's Fuchs Pond complex. The work also highlights wider threats from rodent poisons, including a bald eagle found dead from anticoagulant rat poison beneath its nest in Montauk, raising concerns about local wildlife health.
