• Remembering The Pelican Disaster in Montauk (eastendbeacon.com) — A solemn ceremony at Montauk Point Lighthouse on September 5 honored the 45 lives lost in the 1951 Pelican fishing disaster, with local clergy, officials, and residents participating. The Montauk Historical Society also launched a 75th Anniversary Edition of Tom Clavin's "Dark Noon," with proceeds supporting the society and helping preserve this pivotal chapter of Montauk's maritime history.
• Lucien Smith Dies: Rising Art Star With A New Collection In The Works Was 37 (blavity.com) — New York artist Lucien Smith, who relocated to Montauk in 2014 to step back from the city's art scene, has died at 37. He had just created new Rain Paintings in Montauk for a Tripoli Gallery show, now postponed as the gallery and his family decide how best to honor his final work.
