Caring Participants Shave Heads To Beat Childhood Cancers: Photos
It was bald heads and big hearts in Montauk as heads were shaved to help battle childhood cancer.
MONTAUK, NY — Everyone knew that Saturday was St. Patrick's Day, but, although not as famous, Sunday was St. Baldrick's Day, the time to "Rock the Bald to Conquer Childhood Cancers" at St. Therese de Lisieux Church Parish House in Montauk.
"Shavees" volunteered to let local stylists Pam Loffreno, Rose Schwehr or Nena Stuckart shave their heads, and and beards, to show their support for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, an organization aimed at funding research to tackle childhood cancer.
Anyone with 10 inches or more of hair to cut and donate, including the brave Close Ceva and Riley Reville, also had the opportunity to "mail their manes" to the Locks of Love program. As he does every year, the church's pastor, Father Tom Murray, joined the volunteers, and went home bald.
