Elderly Woman Charged With Leaving the Scene of Montauk Accident: Police

The woman hit a pedestrian and kept going, police said.

MONTAUK, NY — A woman was charged with hitting a pedestrian in Montauk and not stopping, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Lois C. Markel, 86, on New York, NY, was arrested on July 22 at 5:37 p.m. on Old Montauk Highway near School Lane in Montauk, after she was heading west and struck a pedestrian with her passenger side view window.

She then left the scene without displaying her license or insurance identification card to the injured person or to police, and she failed to report the incident to the nearest police or judicial officer, police said.

Markel was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failing to show a license or identification card, a misdemeanor, police said.

The pedestrian suffered abrasions to her legs and was complaining of stomach pains that required treatment at Southampton Hospital, police said.
