New Port Security Vessel Unveiled In Montauk

The new addition will be used primarily as a marine patrol vessel, but can also be utilized for fire suppression or as a marine ambulance.

MONTAUK, NY — A milestone in local maritime history was announced this week as a new marine patrol vessel was unveiled at the U.S. Coast Guard Station Montauk.

The "Marine 2" was garnered through the collaborative efforts of the Montauk Fire Department, the East Hampton Town Police Department, East Hampton Town Marine Patrol, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The new addition will be used primarily as a marine patrol vessel, but can also be utilized for fire suppression or as a marine ambulance, should the need arise or DHS request its use.

Montauk Fire Department Chief Vincent Franzone and East Hampton Town Chief Harbormaster Ed Michels took a tour of "Marine 2" and offered thanks go to East Hampton Police Chief Michael Sarlo for approving a development so critically needed.
