Single Montauk Mom Shut Out Of Year Round Rental Market Needs Help To Buy A Camper
One worried Montauk mom, faced with soaring rental prices, needs help so her daughter is able finish high school in her own community.

MONTAUK, NY — A single mom struggling to keep a roof over her daughter's head so she can finish high school in the community she loves has turned to the community for help.
Sunny Vigilant, of Montauk, has put a human face on the affordable housing crisis on the East End. She's a mother struggling to afford a year-round rental in a tourist destination, and the situation is so challenging that she's been forced to live in a camper with her daughter.
Vigilant kicked off a GoFundMe, "Please Help Us Fund A Camper Home," which has raised $3,205 so far.

"My daughter and I are currently living in a camper in Montauk because in recent years, as Montauk's popularity has grown, cost of living and year round rentals are scarce and unaffordable, as winter jobs are few and I am a single mother," she wrote.
"We bought a used camper to live in three years ago so my daughter could finish out high school, but we have roof leaks and minor problems which are now turning into major problems, which are causing us to need a new camper to live in. We have two more years of high school," Vigilant wrote.

"I am not one to ask for donations but for my child, I will. I just want to have a decent camper for her so she can focus on school and finish out her high school years. We would so appreciate and be eternally grateful for any donation, big or small, so that we can raise enough money to buy a camper which is livable."
