HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.
This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.
Volunteers are needed to help monitor and maintain learning center gardens over the summer while students are out of school. Tasks include watering the plants, weeding, and alerting staff of any needs or maintenance. This is the perfect project for teens 16+ (or 14+ if registering as a member on an adult volunteer's team).

Access Nature Project at Rockefeller State Park Preserve
The Access Nature Project is an initiative that provides nature opportunities for people of limited means, including adults on the spectrum, adults recovering from mental illness, and recent immigrant families. Volunteers will assist naturalists and staff with guided hikes, farm chores, art projects, and picnic lunches. No experience is necessary, but volunteers should have kind, patient attitudes and a love for nature.

Youth Alternatives to Incarceration is dedicated to keeping young people out of prison by helping them find socially responsible and productive ways to use their energy through conflict-resolution trainings and mentorship. Dedicated board members are needed to help build and guide this mission, especially those with experience in finance, fundraising, marketing, law, education, and working with young people. Board members must be 25+.

Volunteer Interpreters (Haitian)
As part of its workforce education programming, Neighbors Link brings in speakers from different community partners to share information with its clients. Volunteers fluent in Haitian are needed to help translate a 2-to-3-hour presentation from English to Haitian for clients as well as help provide communication between the presenter and families. Topics include CPR trainings, banking, resources in schools, and more. Volunteers must be 18+ and attend video call orientation to participate.
