MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Westchester woman is dead, and police in the Bronx are hunting for her killer.
Police are searching for a gunman after a 39-year-old Mount Vernon woman was fatally shot just after midnight in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, according to a report on the shooting by ABC7 New York. The station identified the woman as Julia Andrews and reported that she was found on Murdock Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Andrews was taken to a local hospital, where she died, according to media reports.
Investigators spent hours gathering evidence at the scene and are working to determine a motive, according to the report. Police also examined a vehicle hit by gunfire, with bullets piercing the passenger-side window. The suspect fled on a moped and remained at large as of Tuesday morning, PIX11 News reported. Anyone with information is being urged to contact NYPD.
Family members shared a photo of Andrews and described her to ABC7 New York as a hardworking woman who worked with people with disabilities. They also said she was one month away from her 40th birthday.
