2 Arrested After Sunday Shooting In Rockland County

One man is dead and a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old are charged with murder.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A Spring Valley resident was shot Sunday night. On Tuesday, police arrested a Haverstraw man and a New Jersey resident and charged them with murder.

The call came in at 11 p.m. Sunday, sending officers to the area of 150 Liberty Parkway apartment complex for a report of shots fired.

They found a man identified as 20-year-old Emerson Jean-Baptiste on the ground, unresponsive. It was learned that Jean-Baptiste sustained a gunshot wound and he was ultimately transported to Nyack Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Through the diligent investigation handled by the Detective Bureau and responding officers, 17-year-old Jayden Rodriguez of North Bergen, NJ, and 20-year-old Paul Miller of Haverstraw, NY, were arrested and both charged with Murder 2, an A Felony.

The arrests came with the assistance of the North Bergen, NJ, Police Department, which is where Rodriguez and Miller fled to after the initial incident and where they were both apprehended, police said.

Rodriguez and Miller are currently being held in New Jersey awaiting extradition back to New York for arraignment.

Spring Valley police officials thanked the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Rockland County Intel, the Ramapo Police Department, the Haverstraw Police Department and the North Bergen, NJ, Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
