300+ Come Out for Live Stage Production of Wizard of Oz

There was a photo opportunity after the show with the cast

Everyone is familiar with those ruby slippers and the yellow brick road. Last week, the memorable charactors of the Wizard of Oz visited Nanuet for a live performance.

The Friends of the hosted this event at the in which procceeds benefitted their group. This organization is made up of volunteers that brings programs and other features to the library to improve the library services for the community. Those interested in joining should also contact the library.

"This was a wonderful event for the community," said Library Director Gretchen Bell. "I'm so happy to see so many Nanuet peopel come out. It was a great live preformance for the children."

There were also themed-novelty items for sale that night.

"The show was fantastic. Close to 350 people came and there was a photoshoot opporunity," said Bennie Nelson, President of the Friends of the Nanuet Library. After the show, a long line formed because everyone wanted a picture with the Wizard of Oz cast.

"Last year was a resounding success," said Nelson. The organization put on the play Sleeping Beauty last year.

"It was a wonderful show and a very great audience too," said Mia Capone, who played Dorothy.

Many of the kids came dressed up as their favorite charactors. There were a lot of Dorothys. For Zoe Prieto, her favorite was "the Wicked Witch" and Logan Vanderploeg's favorite was the Tin Man, or what he referred as "the can."

"I liked how the lion got scared all the time," said Logan's sister, Madison.

"It was so much fun, despite the rain," said Mother Missy Vanderploeg. "It was a great night out."

"It was a lovely performance," added Mother Vickie Prieto.

The Wizard of Oz was performed by Plaza Theatrical Productions and there were 13 musical numbers Friday night.
