Albertus Alumni Return for Memorial Lacrosse Day

John B. Novotny died in 2006 in an All Terrain Vehicle accident

A bouncy house was inflated and concession stand was set up at Albertus Magnus High School this past weekend.

Jack Walsh, Ralph Mallozzi and Stephan (Ben) Lising organize the John B. Novotny Memorial Lacrosse Game and Family Day every year for the past six years. John passed away on Feb. 17, 2006 and he played soccer, basketball and lacrosse during his four years at Albertus.

“It turned out nice despite the weather we had,” said Mary Novotny, mother of John Novotny. “Everybody supports this cause.”

John was number 18 when he played lacrosse at Albertus.

“The guys (playing today) are from all over the area. Every year it seems to get bigger and bigger,” said Marty Moran, director of development and alumni relations at Albertus. “Last year we raised $5,000 and 15 kids get monies in some capacity for tuition sport.”

“We’re all ex-college players. It’s great to be here to keep John’s memory alive,” said Bill Novotny, a ’52 Albertus alum who played in the alumni lacrosse game with his son Brandon. “My father, William J. is here in spirit.”

After a long game of lacrosse, everyone met up at Bourbon Street in Nyack, which was started by John Novotny.
