Trisha Horan and Christine Zemsky, seniors at Albertus Magnus High School, were presented with "Good Citizenship" Awards on Saturday, January 15, 2011, by Ann Chmielnik of the Women's Auxiliary of the William E. De Bevoise, Jr. American Legion Post 1682.
Ms. Horan and Ms. Zemsky had been selected last spring to be the 2010 Rockland County representatives to Empire Girls State. They participated in the week long conference from June 27 until July 3, 2011 at the SUNY Brockport campus in Brockport, New York.
During the Empire Girls State session, both Ms. Horan and Ms. Zemsky were involved in campaigns, rallies, debates, speeches, platform writing and creating bills. The students spoke about their experiences at Girls State during their presentations given at the January county meeting of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. The students and their families were guests at the luncheon which followed.
