Broadway Theater comes to Nanuet, Library Begins Kids Summer Program Sign Up

The library opens at 10 a.m. but Nanuet residents are advised that a line usually forms before doors open

School's almost out and everyone's counting down the days, including the . They're getting ready with a live stage performance of the Wizard of Oz.

The library selling tickets for the Wizard of Oz to be performed by the Plaza Theatrical Productions. Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Nanuet High School Auditorium. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion on their adventure through Oz. It's at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8 at the Nanuet High School auditorium.

 "It’s a fun family night of live theater," said Bennie Nelson, President of the Friends of the Nanuet Library. "Spend an evening with Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz."

There will also be themed-novelty items for sale that night. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Nanuet Library.

"Last year was a resounding success," said Nelson. "I encourage all to come out and proceeds go to the Friends of the Nanuet Library organization."

This organization is made up of volunteers that brings programs and other features to the library to improve the library services for the community. Those interested in joining should also contact the library

The library is also gearing up for their 2011 Summer programs for kids, teens and adults. Registration for the kids programs start tomorrow.

  • From June 18 - 25 Nanuet School District families only may take tickets for four of the shows listed on the “Summer Shows” page in the newsletter attached to this article or available at the library and its website.
  • June 27 is when remaining space will be available to the general public, or out-of-district patrons.

The library said that they open their doors at 10 a.m. but a line usually forms before they open because of the popularity of their summer programs.

They'll give out numbers to people waiting in line. Once you have your number, you don't have to wait in line after the library opens. It's a very busy day and they said to remember to bring your library card to register for these programs.

Summer Shows:

  • Four tickets per family
  • The shows are from 4-7 p.m.
  • Arabian Adventure: June 29
  • Bucky and GiGi: July 13
  • Turtle Singer: July 20
  • Robo Legos: July 27
  • Magic and Beyond: Aug 3

Family Crafts:

  • For school-age kids accompanied by an adult
  • Pick two from the Patriotic Pitcher, Road Trip Center or Chinese Lanturn

Grades K-3 Graduates

  • Pick two from these four classes: Cartouche, Hot Air Balloon, Desert Sands Planter, Mosaic Masks

Grades 4-5 Graduates

  • Pick two from these four classes: Fruitastic Creations, Traveler Charm Bracelets, Chocolate Dipping, Cool Treats

Infants - Kindergarten Graduates

  • Toe-tapping, hand-clapping Family Fun with Kurt Gallagher

Infants - Preschoolers

  • Yoga Together
  • Crafts: Beach Bucket Hat and Summer Chimes
