The SMART Sales Unit conducts monthly enforcement compliance checks of local licensed retailers of alcohol products and conducts subsequent court ordered educational classes in the safe and lawful sale of these products. First time offenders are given the opportunity to attend a diversion program by attending an alcohol sale awareness class and having their criminal charges adjourned in contemplation of dismissal and subsequently dismissed if there are no reoccurring violations in six months. Businesses and their owners are scrutinized for proper compliance to the NYS Liquor Authority regulations in terms of law, policy, supervision and training.
NYS Liquor Authority Referrals have been made on the two businesses with reoccurring violations:
Gulf Express in Nanuet and Mobil on Run in West Nyack.
A hearing is pending to review the matter that may result in substantial fine and suspension or revocation of their liquor license. For further information on this program contact Lt. Steve Morgan at 639-5838.
