Car Break-Ins Continue To Plague Nanuet
New City, West Nyack also affected by ongoing rash of thefts.

The car break-ins that have plagued since November continue, with two more cars damaged Friday night.
This time, windows were smashed on two cars parked at the restaurant in Nanuet. An iPod was taken from one of the cars, which were broken into between 8:30 and 10 p.m.
Clarkstown police continue to warn drivers to lock their car doors and not to leave valuable items — especially personal electronics — in plain sight inside parked cars. Items stolen have included laptop computers, pocketbooks, GPS units and other small personal items.

The break-ins began in Nanuet, but quickly spread to other sections of town, including New City and West Nyack.
Last weekend, six cars were broken into at sites including Treetops condos, New Holland Village, the Palisades Center mall and ShopRite in New City.

say they have stepped up patrols in an effort to catch the person or persons responsible for the break-ins. Investigators say they have had difficulty solving this rash of break-ins because the incidents shift places instead of focusing on one specific part of town.
Police report that some of the break-ins have been brazen - such as a car that was broken into right in front of a busy New City pizza shop while it was open.
Police urge anyone who sees something suspicious in a parking lot to call them at 845-639-5800.
