Car Break-Ins: Two More Vehicles Hit In Nanuet

Clarkstown police say they are stepping up patrol efforts in the Nanuet area in hopes of bringing an end to a rash of car break-ins that have hit the area, continuing with two more incidents reported on Monday afternoon.

Police said two cars were broken into in a rear parking lot of Pet Nutrition Center, 115 E. Route 59, Nanuet, off College Road, around 3 p.m. on Monday. Windows on the cars were smashed, however, police said nothing appears to have been taken from these cars.

Cars in various parking lots in the Nanuet area have been broken into in a wave of incidents that started to escalate in November. Most of the break-ins have taken place in the evening, with items left visible — such as GPS units, iPods, laptop computers — stolen.

Police Chief Michael Sullivan said his department has stepped up patrol efforts in the Nanuet area in hopes of catching those responsible for the break-ins. Sullivan asked that anyone who sees suspicious activity in parking lots throughout the town should call police at 845-659-5800.

Sullivan also warned that motorists should not leave valuables visible in automobiles, especially personal electronics. Police warn that GPS units that are mounted on dashboards should not be left out in the open when a car is unattended.
