"I’m really excited about traveling to Macedonia and meeting new people and helping a family in need by working on a build site that will eventually be their new home.”
In addition to being a Habitat for Humanity Learn and Build Experience participant, Zemsky, an honor roll student at Albertus Magnus, is spearheading an “Operation: Adopt a Soldier” drive at the school to benefit U.S. servicemen and women in Afghanistan. (For more information you can email her at OperationAdoptaSoldier@gmail.com.)
Overall, 80 students have been selected to participate in Habitat’s Learn and Build Experience from a pool of over 500 applicants and will volunteer at one of the Habitat affiliate host sites in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Louisiana, Hawaii and Macedonia.
Habitat’s Learn and Build Experience is a summer program that provides young people, ages 16 to 18, the opportunity to travel to a new community, get involved with Habitat’s mission and learn more about the issues surrounding poverty housing.
“We would like to thank the Learn and Build Experience participants for taking time out of their summer to give back,” said Jose Quinonez, director of Volunteer Programs at Habitat. “Together we will help a family realize the dream of home ownership and provide a memorable experience for everyone involved.”
Habitat for Humanity’s Learn and Build Experience is one of many Habitat youth programs that work to capture the imagination, energy and hope of young people worldwide, ages 5 to 25. Major support for the Learn and Build Experience comes from the Seedling Foundation.
