County Honors Members of Nanuet Ambulance Corps & Rockland Paramedics

They delivered a baby in July

Back in July, a Nanuet woman, 33, was sent home from Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern after it appeared that she was not ready to give birth. However, the woman’s contractions kicked in again and that baby was ready to be born.

911 was called and Nanuet Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics rushed over and helped give birth to a new baby girl at 6:24 a.m. Friday, July 1 at a Nanuet home on Keltz Street, according to a .

Last night, the four people who helped deliver this baby were honored by the Rockland County Legislature: Volunteers Erich Rechenberger Sr. and John Reilly from the Nanuet Ambulance Corps and Lt. Bernadette Frae and paramedic Walter Dusseldorp from Rockland Paramedics.

“To hear that story and to know the people, especially, two of the members Erich and John … they’re my neighbors and they’re also retired New York City Police Department (officers),” said Legislator Bob Jackson. “They serve the community … you see them out there working, they’re coaches in the neighborhood and they just give so much. We do appreciate it.”

“It’s very nice to be recognized,” said Rechenberger Sr., who is a retired highway patrol officer from NYPD.

“It feels great to bring a new life into the world,” said Reilly. It’s a call where something good happens.” Reilly is a retired detective from NYPD and both are also brothers-in-law.

They started volunteering for the Nanuet Ambulance Corps in 1979, left for NYPD from 1986 – 2006. Today, both are on the board of directors at the Nanuet Ambulance Corps.

“It’s nice to be acknowledged for good, positive work,” said Frae.

“It’s nice to be recognized for an everyday job,” said Dusseldorp. “It’s especially nice to recognize the volunteers. I’m thankful for this job.”
