County Legislature: Jacklyn Spring Gets Her Own Special Day

Spring is retiring soon and has impacted the Rockland community for decades

The Rockland County Legislature honored Jacklyn Spring before their Monday night meeting for her contributions to the "welfare and wellbeing of our constituents."

With her upcoming retirement, the legislature pronounced Dec. 19, 2011 as Jacklyn Spring Day in the County of Rockland.

"This remarkable individual assists in the coordination and delivery of services to people with developmental disabilities and their families assuring that needed services are available to people affected by developmental disabilities. increasing levels of independence, inclusion, individualization and productivity in the community," said Harriet Cornell, Chairwoman of the Rockland County Legislature.

"Rockland County is so special. You have a remarkable band of providers," said Spring. "Although I've moved to other counties, Rockland has always remained in my heart."

  • 1970 Began work at Letchworth Village as a Social Worker
    Trainee
  • 1973 Granted an educational leave
  • 1975 Received her Master of Social Work
  • She continued her career at Letchworth Village and became the Treatment Team Leader for Rockland County Case Management team. As part of this team, she worked with community support services groups, overseeing a variety of service providers and millions of dollars of grant money programs.
  • 2004 Promoted to Developmental Disabilities Program Specialist 4, overseeing all of the community services operations of the Hudson Valley DDSO (formerly Letchworth Village)
  • She's presently Deputy Director of Community Services.

"Spring embodies the spirit of compassion and giving, having spent her entire adult life advocating for the needs of the mentally and physically disabled, all to the betterment of the community of Rockland," said Cornell. "It is fitting that this Legislature join in the accolades of the family, friends and co- workers of Jacklyn Spring as she is richly honored today on this the occasion of her upcoming retirement."
