Several Nanuet residents reported hearing a loud explosion last night.
The noise they heard was probably the transformer failing (after a tree came down on its wires)," said Michael Donovan, O&R Representative. The transformer "A tree came down on power lines on West Clarkstown Road around 7 p.m. and knocked out power to 1,980 customers."

The downed tree caused a short circuit on the wire and the transformer to fail, stopping electricity.
"That tree brought down several hundred feet of wires and that why it affected so many customers," said Donovan. By 9:30 p.m., only 300 customers were still without power and everyone was restored power by 11 p.m.
