Driver in Critical Condition After 1-Car Accident on New Clarkstown Road
Police say something may have happened to the elderly woman before the crash.

Clarkstown police were called to a motor vehicle accident with injuries near 75 New Clarkstown Road in Nanuet at about 12:40 p.m. today.
They found a car off the east side of the road in a tree-covered area.
Orange and Rockland utility workers who were working nearby assisted in clearing branches so that Spring Valley Fire Department members could extricate the driver using the Jaws of Life.

The driver, an 80-year-old Spring Valley woman, was taken to Nyack Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said it is possible that a medical event precipitated the accident.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle, which had been driving northbound, veer into the southbound lane before swerving back into the northbound lane. It then then drove over the curb and across the grass, before finally coming to a stop with the driver’s side door smashed against a large tree.
The identity of the the driver is being withheld at this time pending notification of family members. She is reported to be in critical condition.
The Clarkstown Police Accident Investigation Team is working on accident reconstruction.
