Events this weekend a quick drive away

Take a break from shopping for school supplies and take back what's left of summer with these fun family-friendly events.

Here are a few events happening a short drive way this weekend. For closer events, check out Nanuet, New City and Nyack's Patch pages under the events tab for happenings closer to home.

Events on more than one day:

  • The Penguin Rep Theatre is showing a comedy adventure "Around the World in 80 Days." New York Times gave positive reviews and showings are Thursday - Sunday this weekend and Labor Day weekend only. Book online today!
  • Roll down the windows and take a nice drive while the weather's still good. End at the DePew House and learn a little history about our local heroes. The Orangetown Historical Museum & Archives presents "Our Lives in their Hands; Fire, Police & Emergency Services" exhibition  is here through November 7 every Tuesday 10-2pm and Sundays 1-4pm.   • Feel like mixing fun with a little learning to transition back into school mode? Tappantown Historical Society member, Janet Galloway will lead a guided walk through the hamlet starting at the Tappan Library. Get a glimpse of the inside of the Dewint House and the Reformed Church of Tappan. For more information or to register: www.taplib.org or  845-359-3877.
  • Have a soccer fan in the family? New York Red Bulls face off against San Jose Earthquakes at the newly built Red Bull Arena. Support international star Thierry Henry who will play for the Red Bulls in this MLS regular season contest. 1-877-727-6223 for more information and tickets are $22-50.
  • Do your kids love Justin Bieber? Hop on the Pascack Valley Line from the Nanuet station down to Newark to hear a million screaming girls.  His tour, My World 2.0, stops at Prudential Center Saturday night at 7pm and tickets are $32.50 and up available online.

Events on Sunday:

  • Know someone that loves WWE wresting? Hop on the Pascack Valley Line from the Nanuet station down to Newark. The WWE presents their Raw World Tour at Prudential Center Sunday night at 5pm. Tickets are $23 and up available online.

  • Have some older kids? Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library has a summer film series called Great Dark Comedies. This film series ends Monday with "Serial Mom," a 1994 movie with the premise: Serial killing is funny. Starring Kathleen Turner, this movie is shown at 1:30 and 6:30pm.
