Dad Accused of Choking Woman's Foe over Game Argument

Clarkstown police were called to 24 Hour Fitness in Nanuet on Monday night.

An argument over a basketball game apparently degenerated into a family feud at a Nanuet fitness center Monday night.

At 6:20 PM Oct. 19 the Clarkstown Police Department responded to 24 Hour Fitness, located at 5205 Fashion Drive.

Officers interviewed the manager who said that a 27-year-old man from Haverstraw and a 24-year-old woman from Nanuet had had an argument over a basketball game. The dispute ended with both parties shoving and pushing each other.

However, police allege that shortly after the dispute had ended, the father of the woman involved arrived at the fitness center and attacked the man involved. Police said he strangled him until he passed out.

Police said the victim refused medical attention when he regained consciousness.

Joseph Biggs, 54, of Nanuet was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters for processing. Biggs was charged with strangulation 2nd (felony). He was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court and released on his own recognizance. Biggs will return to court Oct. 21.
