Federal Funds for Rockland Fighters of Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence

The Center for Safety & Change, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley and the county DA's office will get money.

Four programs based in New City and Spring Valley serving all of Rockland County—three of them coordinated through the Center for Safety & Change—have won federal grant money for services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Center for Safety & Change (Rockland County): $35,600 for bilingual (Spanish) sexual assault victim advocacy and counseling services.
  • Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (Rockland County): $35,600 for civil legal services for immigrant domestic violence victims.
  • Rockland County SAFE: $66,750 to partially fund a sexual assault prosecutor and to partially fund a coordinator for a sexual assault nurse examiner program through the Center for Safety and Change.
  • Rockland County District Attorney’s Office: $66,750 to partially fund a domestic violence assistant district attorney and partner with the Center for Safety and Change to provide victim services and the Victim Counseling Services for a batterer program.

They are among the 90 community organizations, hospitals, police departments and district attorneys’ offices in New York state receiving $6.2 million in federal funds to enhance services and protections for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today.

“Domestic violence has no place in our communities and we must work together to let victims know there is assistance available for them,“ said U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Rockland,Westchester). “These federal dollars to Westchester and Rockland organizations will help combat domestic violence. As the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, I helped to increase funding for VAWA grants and I will continue to protect initiatives that assist victims.”
