Free Income Tax Help at Rockland Walk-in Sites

This program is running now until April. Check below for when and where to go

It’s Tax Season and if some off you need help with preparing your income taxes, there’s free help here in Rockland County. AARP Tax-Aide are offering their services at specific locations, dates and times. This is currently going on from now through April 15, so take advantage of this free assistance soon.

AARP Tax-Aide is the largest tax counseling and preparation service in the U.S. run by free volunteers. This service is offered to all taxpayers with middle and low income and with special attention given to those age 60 and over. All returns are e-filed. Also, some of the sites offer financial and benefit information and assistance.

Here’s what to expect at these sites:

  • Taxes are prepared and e-file by AARP Tax-Aide trained volunteers
  • Returns are prepared on a first come, first serve basis
  • Here’s what to bring with you:
  • Copy of the Federal and State tax returns you filed last year
  • W-2 forms—statements from employer(s) showing wages and earnings
  • Unemployment compensation statements
  • All 1099 forms showing pension, social security, interest and dividends received
  • All forms indicating what Federal tax you paid
  • Notices, booklets and forms you received from the IRS and New York State
  • Receipts and Cancelled checks for income and property taxes paid and for charitable contributions
  • Social security number of each dependent. Bring the SS cards if possible.
  • Diskette of Federal and State returns you filed last year if you received one
  • Any other information affecting your taxes

  • You’ll get information on programs and services offered in Rockland County.
  • They’ll help you determine what benefits you’re eligible for
  • Banking services and assistance are also available

At these sites, volunteers and computers visit myBenefits.ny.gov to help you determine what you’re eligible for.
