Health Department Program for Rockland Seniors: Managing Concerns About Falls

As one of many of the services the Rockland County Department of Health offers to its residents, there's a new program starting up: A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls, a free fall-prevention program for senior citizens.
““Unintentional falls are the leading cause of non-fatal injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms for anyone over 55 years old," said said Dr. Joan Facelle, Rockland County Commissioner of Health. "When you are older, an injury from a fall can lead to a loss of independence and/or complications. The good news is that falls can be prevented.”

- Develop their confidence
- Set realistic goals to increase activity
- Make changes to reduce the risks of falls at home
- Exercise to increase strength and balance
Advanced registration is required. If you make it to one of these classes you can be placed on their mailing list. Upcoming programs are scheduled at the following times and places:
- LocationRockland County YMCA—37 South Broadway, Nyack, NY
- Time: Thursdays, 11 AM to 1 PM
- Dates: April 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2, 9

- Location: RCC, Spring Valley Extension—185 North Main Street, Spring Valley, NY
- Time: Wednesdays & Fridays, 1 PM to 3 PM
- Dates: June 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24
Classes meet for eight, 2-hour sessions and are taught by volunteers who are
