It was a full house and parents had to stand along the walls and outside of the Nanuet High School auditorium. It was the fourth grade moving up ceremony for the Highview Elementary students who were now graduating and going onto Barr Middle School.
“It’s a great feeling,” said Father Tony Viera about his son’s moving up ceremony. “You wait four years for this. It’s a great step up to the next level and next experience in life. He’s very excited and looking forward to the challenge that’s ahead of him (at Barr MS).”
“He’s excited,” said Kristen Padilla about her son. “I can’t believe the time went so quickly so it’s bittersweet.”

The ceremony started with a few words from Principal Barbara Auriemma followed by student relfections and teachers' gifts.
“We’re excited about the independence,” said Student Josh Gold, adding that he was also looking forward to lockers. “I’m going to miss Mrs. Ryan.”

His two friends Sean Ryan and Max Viera also were looking forward to the lockers as well as the desks and chairs at Barr MS.
“I think my son thought the (Highview) school was great,” said Father Robert C. Miles. “He liked the Highview song they sang in the moving up ceremony.”
Two songs were sung during the ceremony by the fourth-graders: "Discovery" and the "Highview School Song."
“I’m happy because school’s over and sad because school’s over,” said Katie Gregory. She added that she’s looking forward to lockers, but would miss Mrs. Tidd, the art teacher as well as her third grade friends.
At the very end, a slide show of the students' elementary memories was played on the big screen.
“We’re proud of them,” said Father John Kelly.
“Feels great, they’re very excited,” said Father Freddie Gonzales.
