Highview Playground: Now a 501c

The playground's rebuilding efforts received their non-profit status last Friday

“We got our 501c on Friday,” said Don Franchino, Fundraising Chair. “I have to thank Priscilla (Drobes) and Jean (Healy).” Both are on the steering committee for the playground rebuilding project and are the PR and Finance chairs respectively.

“When we found out we weren’t going to get this for eight months, we met with Eliot Engel and he stepped up to the plate,” Franchino said adding that Engel’s help was a crucial part in getting the IRS to grant the playground’s rebuilding efforts their non-profit status.

Now donations to the playground are tax deductible and the playground can also file for grants. For ways to get involved and/or to donate, check out the website.

“It’s great that we were able to become a 501c,” said Steering Committee President Michelle Mazzaro. “Now we can move forward with a lot of fundraising efforts and make this new playground closer to becoming a reality.”
