Indictment, Sentences: Rockland County DA

Larceny, robbery, assault—and counterfeit $20s

Shoyn Johnson of Brooklyn was indicted on Aug. 8 by a Rockland County Grand Jury for the crimes of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 1st Degree.

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said on Feb. 12, 2014 at about 6:10 pm, Johnson used fraudulent money to pay for a Dyson vacuum at Target located in the Palisades Center Mall. Johnson was found to be in possession of 46 additional fraudulent $20 bills.

Jonathan Burrell, 33, of 9 Birch Road, Sloatsburg, New York, was sentenced by the Honorable Charles Apotheker, County Court Judge on Aug. 11, to one year in the Rockland County Jail after pleading guilty to Attempted Burglary in the Third Degree.

Zugibe said between Aug. 16 and 17, 2013, Suffern, the defendant entered a business in Suffern with the intent to commit a larceny.

Edwin Vasquez, 47, was sentenced Aug. 13, before New York State Supreme Court Justice William A. Kelly to a state prison term of 4 years and 3 years post release supervision after Assault in the 2nd Degree.

Zugibe stated that in September 2013 the defendant and victim were both patients at Rockland Pschyatric Center located in Orangeburg. Vasquez entered the victim’s room while the victim was asleep and took money. While Vasquez stole the money the victim woke up and Vasquez punched him numerous times and took a metal object and beat the victim with it. The victim was treated for various injuries at a local hospital.

Ignacio A. Molina, 28, was sentenced August 13, 2014, before New York State Supreme Court Justice William A. Kelly to a state prison term of seven years and five years post release supervision after pleading guilty to Attempted Robbery in the 2nd Degree.

Zugibe said that on Feb. 18, at about 1:15 am, Molina, who was homeless, exited a taxicab and walked to the bus shelter on Route 202 in Garnerville and grabbed a person’s cell phone from his hands. The victim resisted and Molina drew a knife. The victim fled the area. Soon, a Town of Haverstraw police officer arrested Molina.
