Liquor Store Burglar Caught On Video

Clarkstown police seek public's help in identifying man suspected in several break ins.

Clarkstown police are seeking the public’s helping in identifying a man who is wanted in at least two burglaries, including a break in at the Buy Rite Liquor Outlet store in Nanuet.

Police said they believe the burglar may be a pro, since he seemed to know exactly what he was looking for and how to break into cash registers. The thief got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, and police believe he had a partner who was driving a car.

The Buy Rite break in took place on Sept. 3 at around 1 a.m., with the burglar getting into the store through a back door and spending about eight minutes inside. Police believe the same man also broke into the nearby Super Cuts store, however, nothing was taken in that burglary.

In the Buy Rite burglary, police said the thief stuck to taking cash – stuffing it into a paper bag he took from the main counter — and did not bother with any of the store’s wine and liquor stock. Investigators are hoping that making security video footage from the burglary public that they will be able to develop new leads into the identity of the burglar.

Police said the store’s security system took very good video. Additionally, police believe the burglar may have mistaken a security camera for a motion detector, so he did not cover his face when looking almost directly into the camera. Police received notification of a possible break in from an alarm company at 1:11 a.m.
