“I worked with Major League Baseball for 20 years, and then I left in 2009 because my job was being downsized and to spend time with my family,” she said. She then then smiled, “I had to come up with a second act.”

And the Empire State College graduate with a B.S. degree in Management and Economics has found her second act, and she’s doing it for the kids. “I love kids. I have three of my own.”

Falcon Sports Events, LLC, founded this year, will have three facets:

  • sports camps (primarily basketball)
  • sports-themed events and parties
  • 3-on-3 basketball tournaments

The latter takes me back to my childhood. Until she gets a permanent spot to hold her camps and events, the Nanuet school district is kindly allowing her to use the Nanuet Family Resource Center on Convent Road.

And that first event is just a month or so away, on August 22. Former Wagner College basketballer Gerald Thomas will host the camp. He works for the National basketball Association in productions and has won both a Sports Emmy and Telly Award. Thomas is also Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Rockland Parent Child Center.

“I’m confident we’ll have a great product,” said Faulcon, “so sign up soon.”

Yes, it’s about basketball, but you can gather from Deidra Varona Faulcon that there’s something much more important in “play” (pun intended) here. “We have that focus on exercise, well being, relationships and teamwork. Lots of programs play around and have a good time, but we not only eat apples instead of chips, we’ll walk instead of riding the bike.”

Translated, Falcon Sports Events, LLC will take that extra step in overall life skills, not just being the next Michael Jordan.

“There’s no ‘I’ in team; we’re going to push that. And our program includes both boys and girls being part of the team. Some camps separate kids. We want all the kids to feel like a part of the team.”

The initial event, where the programs will run all day, are planned specifically for late August because many summer programs are not held or cease operation between that date and Labor Day. “We’ll provide an additional activity,” said Faulcon, “when there is down time.”

Falcon Sports Events, LLC looks to host 3 to 4 camps per year, one per quarter, in addition to parties and other events. “I want us to become,” said Falcoun, “the premier sports events company in Nanuet.” (Although you don't have to be a Nanuet School District resident to join).

She and Falcon Sports Events, LLC are on their way to doing so.
