Mounted Officers Graduate from Rockland County Training Courses
The County Sheriff's Mounted Unit held an 80-hour training course for officers and horses from the tri-state area.
Graduation day was Friday for 22 riders and horses from Rockland's most recent Mounted Officer Graduation Class and Mounted Officer In-Service Training. The Rockland County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit conducted an 80-hour training course from April 17- 28 for officers from the tri-state area.
Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco said the course covered both precision riding and the use of police horses in law enforcement to cover car stops, auto extrication and crowd control.

- Rockland Sheriff’s Mounted Unit - 4 Officers
- Waterbury, CT Mounted Unit - 2 Officers
- New York State Police - 2 Troopers
- NY City Parks Enforcement Mounted Unit -10 Officers
- Morris County NJ Parks Mounted Unit - 2 Officers
- Saratoga Springs Police Mounted Unit - 2 Officers
The graduation ceremony was conducted at the Mounted Unit Location in Ramapo and included an introduction to Mounted Police work and information relating to the mounted officer aptitude and selection process. There was also a full demonstration on horseback of the capabilities of officers with their equestrian partners.
Sheriff Falco presided over the graduation ceremony and briefly spoke about the unique capabilities of the Mounted Patrol and the valuable assistance they provide to various police departments in the county.
