Two condo units in Nanuet were damaged Saturday night in a fire at 16 Linda Court, according to Clarkstown police. It was at the Vista at Kingsgate in the Hamlets.
The fire was spotted at about 7:15 p.m. by residents of nearby Chester Lane, who could see the fire on the back deck of 16 Linda Court. The Spring Valley Fire Department responded to the call and Nanuet FD was also there as a fast team.
“It (the condo) was occupied but they were out of the building when we arrived,” Ken Sohlman, Spring Valley FD Chief. Clarkstown Sgt. Nicholas Lafasciano said the residents of the two units got out of the condos without injury. Lafasciano said the upper condo unit sustained some fire damage to the rear of the unit and some minor fire and smoke damage to the kitchen and family room. He said the lower unit had water damage.

“When I got here, there was heavy exterior fire,” Sohlman said. “It appears to have started on the outside.”
Police said the damage was not major, but the residents of the two units affected had to relocate for the night. Orange and Rockland Utilities workers cut power to the condo units as a precaution as volunteer firefighters fought the blaze. Lafasciano said the fire is not considered suspicious but an investigation into the cause is continuing.

The cause is under investigation by the Clarkstown Fire Inspector’s office.
A few residents of the condo development came out to see what was going on.
“We just saw the firefighters and came over,” said Danny Scanno. “We didn’t know what was going on.”
