Nanuet High Schoolers Miss First Day Due To Sewer Problem
The rest of the district's schools opened as scheduled.

NANUET, NY — Nanuet High School students did not go to class on the first day of the 2022-23 school year.
While other Nanuet students had normal opening days, Nanuet High School couldn't open due to a sewer problem.
At 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Superintendent Kevin R. McCahill sent a message to parents and posted on the district website:

Due to an issue with the high school’s main sewer discharge line that surfaced this afternoon, unfortunately Nanuet High School will be CLOSED on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. There will be no classes for students in grades 9-12 (in-person or virtual). There will also be no access to the high school property for before- or after-school activities. Athletic Director Carbone and his coaches will communicate with student athletes about adjustments to tomorrow’s schedule.
Please note that this sewage issue at the high school did not impact any of our other buildings. Therefore, we are still looking forward to welcoming back our elementary and middle school students tomorrow. Please also note that tonight’s Board of Education Meeting has been cancelled. The next regularly scheduled Board Meeting will be Tuesday, September 20th.
We know everyone at the high school was eagerly anticipating the first day of school. Please know that we are working to fix the issue swiftly so that we can welcome back our high school students and staff as soon as possible. We will send out another communication on Wednesday with an update.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The school closure included students attending the morning and afternoon CTEC programs at Rockland BOCES.
