The four-week program called Puppets 'n stuff began today at the Nanuet Public Library. As one of the many programs, this featured a fun learning and interactive experience for preschool age children.

Cheryl Brady directed this program and led the kids through interesting exercises asking the kids questions and getting them thinking. The different subjects included animals, numbers and learning. She worked with the entire group and individuals and used puppets throughout to keep the kids engaged.

"I've got a bag full of puppets," Brady said. Brady put on a show with storytime and a matching game using different voices and sounds.

"Some (of the kids) are outgoing, some are shy," she said. "My favorite thing is reaching a child, making a child smile and making a child feel like he or she's accomplished something." Brady encourages applause for each child as they come up to participate in the puppet games.

Some of the kids went up by themselves and some with their parents. Brady said she once got feedback from a mother whose child did not participate much during the puppet show, but afterwards the child would talk about everything that happened later after they left.

"They would leave here and she'd push her child in the shopping cart and her child would talk the whole time about the puppets and what he learned or what colors the puppets were and so on," Brady said she feels satisfied that she's done a good job when she reaches the children that don't participate as well as the more active kids.

Although registration has ended for this program, Brady will return in the spring as this program occurs once a week for four weeks in the fall, spring and sometimes in the summer. Nanuet cardholders receive preference over non-residents for programs.
