Nanuet Man Killed In Crash On Route 9 In Fishkill

83-year-old's car ran off the road, slammed into concrete pillar in Dutchess County.

An 83-year-old Nanuet man was killed Tuesday in Dutchess County when his car struck a concrete pillar at the entrance to a state Department of Transportation facility on Route 9, according to State Police.

Rocco A. Cianciulli was driving northbound in Fishkill at about 1:40 p.m. when his 2002 Honda Accord crossed into the southbound lane and left the roadway south of Clove Road. State troopers at the Wappinger barracks said the car sustained severe front-end damage and was trapped in the car.

Volunteers from the Rombout Fire Department extricated Cianciulli from the wreckage. Police said Cianciulli appeared to have sustained extensive head and neck injuries and died at the scene of the crash.

Police said Cianciulli was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident and that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.  Police ask that anyone with information about the accident call the New York State Police at Wappinger at 845-298-0398.

Paramedics from Mobile Life Services paramedics and personnel from the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office also assisted at the scene of the crash.
