Nanuet Proposes School Budget For 2022-23 With 0% Tax Levy Increase

Two school trustees are running unopposed for re-election to the Board of Education.

NANUET, NY — ­Voters go to the polls May 17 to decide on the Nanuet Board of Education's proposed $82.47 million school budget for 2022-23, to pick two trustees, and to weigh in on bus purchases and future improvement projects.

The spending plan is a 4.36 percent increase over current spending and carries no increase in the total tax levy.

A separate proposition asks voters to OK a capital reserve fund for future projects, including a second artificial turf field at Nanuet Senior High School.

A third proposition covers the cost of leasing four 72-passenger school buses for five years. The total cost would not exceed $425,000.

Each year, district officials also budget $1.5 million for capital improvements. The project for the coming year: asbestos abatement and tile replacement at George W. Miller Elementary School.

There is no candidate on the ballot for the library board, but space for write-ins.

Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Nanuet Senior High School gymnasium.
