Nanuet, NY - Nanuet Public Library presents Nanuet Reads, a community-wide reading program for all ages featuring the New York Times bestselling nonfiction title, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. The program begins with a Free Book Giveaway to be held at Nanuet Public Library, 149 Church St, Nanuet, NY on Tuesday, September 26, 10am – 7pm, or while supplies last.
The Nanuet Public Library staff is proud to host a One Book, One Community Program for the first time. Nanuet Reads is designed to spark conversation and build community by bringing a diverse group of people together to read the same book and then explore its themes through a series of events for all ages.
On September 26, free copies of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind will be given away to anyone interested in participating. Free books are available at three different reading levels including Young Readers and Picture Book. To claim a free copy of the book, simply register for at least one Nanuet Reads Event for Adult, Teens, or Children. Events related to the book include screenings of the 2019 feature film adaptation of the book directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, a screening of the documentary “William and the Windmill”, an “Aiming for Zero Waste” talk presented by Rockland Green, a Parent-Tween Book Club discussion of the Young Readers Edition for Grades 5 - 8, a Picture Book Club for Grades 2 and up, a “Wind at Work” hands-on STEAM workshop for Grades Kindergarten and up, as well as crafts for Children and Teens.

In addition to these Library events, a StoryWalk of the Picture Book Edition will be on display at Highview School Playground beginning on September 26. A StoryWalk allows participants to enjoy a picture book in the great outdoors. Each page is enlarged and placed on a display panel along a walking path. The StoryWalk™ project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

For each Nanuet Reads Event attended, participants earn one entry into a raffle to win a prize at the end of the program in late November.
