Nanuet Schools Make Decisions About Friday Schedule

Most Rockland school officials are hedging their bets.

NANUET, NY — School districts across Rockland County are hedging their bets Thursday evening. Like Nanuet, most are calling two-hour delays for Friday. Clarkstown schools have already announced they'll be closed.

The nor-easter called a cyclone bomb left gusty winds and blowing snow in its wake. And also as it moved away it pulled very, very cold air down from the Great Lakes. Temperatures Friday into Sunday will be far below normal, and wind chills will make it feel like more than 10 degrees below zero, meteorologists are saying.

As of 6 p.m., these Rockland districts had announced plans:

  • Clarkstown schools - closed
  • East Ramapo schools - 2 Hour delay
  • Nanuet schools - 2 hour delay
  • Nyack schools - 2 hour delay
  • North Rockland schools - 2 hour delay
  • Pearl River schools - 2 hour delay
  • Rockland BOCES - 2 hour delay
  • South Orangetown - 2 hour delay

Nyack officials announced:

Due to the strong winds and extreme temperatures that have accompanied today's snow storm, NYACK SCHOOLS WILL BE ON A 2-HOUR DELAY TO THE OPENING OF SCHOOLS TOMORROW, FRIDAY, JANUARY 5th.
The High School will start at 9:30am. The Middle School will start at 10:05am. The elementary schools will start at 10:50am.
Please be advised that transportation for out of district, private and parochial schools will also run on a two hour delay schedule.

Clarkstown officials announced:

Due to forecasted weather conditions, the Clarkstown Central School District will remain closed on Friday, January 5, 2018. All meetings, programs and activities scheduled for Friday are canceled, as are after school and evening activities and any building permits.
Transportation services provided by the District for out of district placements and private schools are also canceled.
