New City Chiropractic Center Raises Funds for Homes for Heroes

Dr. Mike Cocilovo gives back to numerous charitable organizations all year long. Homes for Heroes is the most recent recipient.

New City Chiropractic Center is known for giving back to the Rockland community. They have supported numerous causes over the past 32 years including Multiple Sclerosis, Keep Rockland Beautiful, the Red Cross, and Toys for Tots, to name a few. Recently they offered free chiropractic care for Veterans and active service members and for each new patient, they made a donation to Rockland’s Homes for Heroes program.

In addition, New City Chiropractic’s patient Bob Iorio, donated vintage baseball cards which were purchased by patients. On top of that, Approved Oil, the largest family-owned oil company in New York City, made a large contribution bringing the total donation to $1,000.

“Through the generous contribution of Vincent Theurer of Approved Oil, the gift of baseball cards from our friend and patient Bob Iorio, as well as the grass roots contributions of our patients, we are pleased and honored to donate $1,000 to John Murphy for the Rockland Homes for Heroes program. This serves as a symbol of our community’s commitment to those who have fought and served for our nation’s freedom and we are proud to stand beside them,” stated Dr. Michael Cocilovo of New City Chiropractic Center.

Former Rockland County Legislator John Murphy, a former Marine, and several other veterans, have worked together over the past several years to raise money to turn a portion of the Camp Shanks grounds in Tappan into a Homes for Heroes project. Currently there are eight rental garden apartments on the site which saw 1.3 million soldiers pass through on their way to Europe to fight in World War II.

“One out of every 20 homeless persons in America is a veteran; they live in the shadows, and they don’t ask for things,” Murphy said. “One of the veterans now living here, lived in his automobile for one year. We are seeking funding to help us build more units. I’d like to see it become a living memorial to many of the 1.3 million GIs who never made it back home,” he added.
