Northern Metropolitan’s Petting Zoo a Big Hit During National Nursing Home Week
Bringing Smiles to the Faces of Residents
By Jeff Jacomowitz
On Wednesday, May 17th from 2:00 – 3:00pm, Northern Metropolitan on Maple Avenue in Monsey organized a petting zoo for their residents, families and friends. The petting zoo was all part of National Nursing Home Week that went from May 15 through 19 throughout the country. Here in Monsey, however, the residents got a huge kick out the different types of animals they petted.
“I love doing these things for our residents during this very special week,” said Brenda Warsaw, Recreation Director at Northern Metropolitan. “We had a beautiful turnout and everyone had such an amazing time.”

The animals came from Kasey's Cast-A-Ways 24 hr Baitshop and Fun Farm, the outfit that brought the lamb, goats, bunnies, and Shelby the Shetland pony to the event. Residents used Shelby as their creative canvas for painting and everyone enjoyed interacting with the animals. Centers Health Care provides consultation to Northern Metropolitan.
