Pedestrian Hit By 81-Year-Old Driver In New Hempstead

The accident midday Monday closed the road for several hours.

RAMAPO, NY — A Nyack pedestrian was critically injured Monday when he was hit by a car on New Hempstead Road, according to Ramapo police.

The accident happened at 12:55 p.m. near the intersection of Route 45, in the Village of New Hempstead. The crash and the clean-up and investigation closed the street for several hours.

Police said an 81-year-old Wesley Hills resident operating a 2007 Lexus struck the Nyack 57-year-old in the roadway. The driver stayed at the scene, and the victim was transported to Nyack Hospital by Hatzolah Ambulance.

He remains in critical condition, police said Tuesday morning.

The accident is under investigation by the Ramapo Accident Investigations Unit and the Ramapo Detective Bureau, and there are no criminal charges at this time.
