"Operation Slow Down" Targets New Clarkstown Streets

Police responding to residents' complaints about speeders

At Tuesday night's Town Workshop meeting, Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan listed off the new streets.  He said the traffic control effort will target the following streets:

  • New Clarkstown Rd
  • Old Mill Rd in Valley Cottage
  •  Bardonia Rd
  • Old Rt. 304
  • Rt. 303

At a past Town Board Workshop, he was asked why those streets were identified. Chief Sullivan said the department received a lot of complaints from residents about speeders on the side streets.  He explained patrol officers will travel the side streets and traffic officers with radar will cover the highways and major roadways in town.

About Operation Slow Down

Operation Slow Down, a public awareness and enforcement initiative against speeding and reckless drivers, was launched in February 2011. The purpose of the public safety program is to educate residents and raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and provide increased enforcement.  Through the year, different streets in Clarkstown have been selected for targeted enforcement, resulting in many drivers being ticketed.
