Pit Bull That Attacked Toddler Under Evaluation

Graphic videos were tweeted out on social media by OJPAC Hudson Valley after the attack in Spring Valley.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — An attack on a child by a pit bull that got out of its owner's house in Spring Valley led to a social media campaign about the response of local police to the concerns of the Orthodox community.

The Orthodox Jewish Affairs Council (Hudson Valley) tweeted graphic photos and videos of the incident and a prior one they said involved the same dog.

The child was treated by an Hatzolah ambulance crew, according to the Ramapo Daily Voice. The dog had been let out by its owner's child, Spring Valley Police Chief Paul Modica told the DV. Police first on the scene at 6 p.m. returned several hours later and picked up the dog, taking it to an animal shelter for evaluation. The Daily Voice reported that the dog's owner received a ticket for not having required insurance and that Modica said more charges might be forthcoming.

The OJAC was extremely critical of police for what it considered a minimal response and for waiting to take the dog away. They tweeted that it was not the dog's first attack on a neighbor and they told local news media that the local Orthodox community felt police did not take their complaints seriously.
