Police: TV Scam Being Played Out in the Nanuet Area

The Clarkstown Police Department is investigation a scam that involves bringing people to a Sears store.

The Clarkstown Detective Bureau is looking into a scam that’s been going around the Nanuet area.

In a press release issued by Chief of Police Michael R. Sullivan, the victims of the scam seem to target business owners and diners.

He said a cold call to the potential victim is made by someone named “Jimmy” who says that he is a UPS driver or Budweiser truck driver. The caller says his brother “Henry” works for Sears and can get Samsung 65-inch curve televisions at a discount.

Calls are made between all the parties and the victim is lured to a Sears location in Nanuet.

Once there, a person comes out to meet them, usually wearing Sears employee indentification. That person convinces the victim to give him cash, issuing them a false receipt, and tells them to wait for the TV to be brought out.

At that point, the “Sears employee” goes into the store and exits from another part of the store, leaving the victim without a television and out the money.

Detectives have been able to ID some of the suspects and are expecting to make arrests in the near future.

The department is asking the public to notify them if anyone has approached them to participate in this scam or if anyone has any information about the suspect in the picture above.
