Ran Out Of Gas, Accused Of DWI With Kids In Car

New York State police allege the man had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.

SLOATSBURG, NY — A Brooklyn man driving with his children, aged 2 and 4, ran out of gas on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County, state police said.

Troopers who stopped by the car at 1:50 a.m. Sunday concluded that Vladimir Savichev, 44, was intoxicated.

The children were turned over to a sober family member. Savichev was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Newburgh, where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.27%, police alleged.

He was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle; a Class E Felony, Endangering the Welfare of a Child; a Class A Misdemeanor, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Violations.

Savichev was arraigned before the Village of Suffern Court and sent to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or bond. He is due back in court June 26.
