RCC Debate Team Impresses In Season-Opening Event

RCC students win in both varsity and novice divisions.

NANUET, NY - From Rockland Community College: Rockland Community College dominated the season-opening debate tournament at Dominican College on October 29 with victories in both the novice and varsity divisions. The team of Seth Spiegel and Rachel Schild won the varsity division after winning all three of their debate rounds. Spiegel also took home the first-place speaker award and Schild captured fourth-place speaker.

In the novice division, David Shaw was undefeated after his three rounds of debate. He also took home the second-place speaker award in the novice division. RCC’s Rivka Mandel was the fourth-ranked speaker in that division.

Several pairs of debaters represented each school in three preliminary rounds of competition. 10 teams from Dominican College, Yeshiva University and RCC competed in the two divisions.

The RCC team is coached by Andrew Jacobs, Professor of Speech. Edwin Cardona and Adhira Johnson-Miller also competed for RCC in this event.

RCC will host the next tournament on November 19.
