Residents to Speak to Officials About Route 9W Safety

Family of Janet Martinez, who died from injuries suffered when hit by a car, will speak

Janet Martinez, 53, of Pomona was hit by a sedan June 10 while riding her bicycle along Route 9W in Upper Grandview June 10. She died not long after the accident.

Members of her family and other Orangetown residents are slated to speak at Orangetown Town Board meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Orangetown Town Hall. They will call for a resolution asking the New York State Department of Transportation for a reduction of the speed limit on that part of 9W and to have more signs reminding motorists to share the road posted.

At last report, investigators with the  were asking anyone with more information about the incident to call 845-359-3700.
